Maangchi's June Newsletter!
Sending you the final video from my Real Korean Cooking series! Plus making kimchi grilled cheese, kimchi pancake, and some of your own Korean cooking stories and photos!
Just before the first bite! : )
One great thing about living in New York City is that there are tons of good pizza places everywhere, where you can get a hot slice right away. They are usually all good no matter where you go, and you can get a quick snack on the street, easily and fast. I was super-hungry when this photo was taken lol.
Farewell dinner with my friends
This is the last video in my Real Korean Cooking Stories series. I go to Namdaemun market in Seoul and get the ingredients for a farewell dinner with my friends.
I’ve been so happy to hear that a lot of you loved this series. It was a new format for me to try and I think it was very successful. But I am really excited to start doing my usual recipe videos again. You’ll see them soon!
One-minute video: Kimchi grilled cheese!
Here's my super quick way to make a grilled cheese filled with kimchi and lots of mozzarella cheese! Want the full details? Check out the recipe here!
Nice looking gimbap!
My reader BecomingStar has been making gimbap for a while, but she said she learned how to roll it tightly and slice it cleanly through my gimbap recipe video.
So, what do you think? Her gimbap looks neatly rolled and firm, doesn’t it? And of course it looks delicious too!
When kimchi pancake meets fried egg!
My reader RunaCherryBlossom from Switzerland only recently found my website, and she gave my kimchi pancake recipe a try. She absolutely loved the flavor!
She even topped it with a fried egg and some vegetables to turn it into a one plate meal. Pretty awesome idea, right? The recipe for kimchi pancake (kimchijeon) is here!
Lola’s Korean side dishes
Lola from India made many delicious Korean side dishes, and all of them look very delicious.
She’s not only a great cook, but also super resourceful. When certain ingredients aren’t available, she substitutes them with local ones. For example, when she tried my steamed shishito peppers recipe, she couldn’t find shishito peppers in her area, so she used some readily available mild peppers instead.
Messages from readers & viewers
You always make my day brighter and give me so much to think about! Here are a few of your messages I want to share this month:
Arwani’s comment on my twisted doughnuts (kkwabaegi) recipe made me so happy!
Best recipe out there I’ve been making it for a while now and it works each time which is rare for me whenever I follow a recipe that’s why it’s my favorite!
My 14 year old fan made honey butter fried chicken and said it turned out so good!
I’m 14 years old, and cooked this for my grandma, cousin, myself. I must say its so delicious!!
Fluffy steamed buns filled with sweet red bean paste (jjinppang in Korean). Umm, it sounds great! I couldn’t resist making it after reading this comment! : )
Made these and the whole family loved them 💜 thank you Maangchi!
aray85ful’s message reminds me of my old days when I used to make lunch box for my own children.
I love watching your videos! It is very entertaining. I used to make lunch box for my children until they went to college!
What’s your family’s favorite Korean dish? LadyC said it’s Kimchi stew!
First watched this during lockdown in 2020. I made it right away and still continue to make this 5 years later. This is our family's favorite. Thanks Maangchi! ❤❤❤
Here’s the chicken porridge I made and enjoyed a few days ago. Through this nice bowl of porridge, I’m sending you this letter filled with warmth and love. : )
I finally got to see The Great Gatsby on Broadway, which had been on my wish list for a long time! Even though I already knew the story, the stage production, sparkling costumes, and their performance were really impressive! I was just thinking: if I wore one of those costumes in my video, would my viewers love it? : )
Ok, I’ll see you next month on July 1st!
Keep being happy with your delicious Korean cooking and share your stories with us!

Oh you’d totally rock the Great Gatsby look! Do it!
Hello! I just wanted to say that the kimchi grilled cheese recipe looks amazing! I tried it, and it was even tastier than it looked. Thank you from the bottom- or top???- of my heart!
