Maangchi's letter to you
Hola, hola!
I'm fine, everybody! This photo was taken totally for you. I always want to show you a piece of my real life to welcome you. I wish I could see all of you today!
New recipe: Green onion kimchi
This kimchi, made with green onions is called Pa-kimchi (파김치) in Korean or just green onion kimchi in English. Pa-kimchi is very aromatic, pungent, spicy, crispy, and much easier to make than traditional Korean baechu kimchi (napa cabbage kimchi), because you don’t need many ingredients.
Check it out, check it out! : )
New recipe: Korean Rolled omelette
This recipe for Korean rolled omelette (gyeran-mari in Korean) is very easy, and it’s one of the most popular and common dishes for a Korean dosirak (lunchbox). This is because it’s easy to make, looks beautiful, goes well with rice, and can last for hours in a lunchbox and still looks delicious and fluffy when you open it.
But you can also make this side dish for your everyday meals. I posted this recipe only a few days ago but I've already heard many people tried it out!
New recipe: Steamed shishito peppers
Shishito peppers (kkwari-gochu in Korean) are mild, wrinkly, thin, and flavorful. Koreans use these peppers for many side dishes. This dish called kkwari-gochujjim is made by steaming the peppers first and seasoning them. You can refrigerate it up to 1 week, so if you make this on a weekend, you can enjoy it all the next week. You can also skip the gochu-garu (Korean hot pepper flakes) if you want to make a milder version.
Melbmatt traveled with Korean ingredients!
Do you remember my recipe for Korean style fried snapper that I filmed years ago in Zihuatanejo, Mexico? The fish there was so fresh and delicious that I couldn’t resist trying out this simple, tasty, traditional Korean recipe, domi-yangnyeom-gui.
I'm confirming that my reader Melbmatt (Matt living in Melbourne, Australia) is great at Korean cooking. He always surprises me with delicious photos uploaded to my website, and he did it again with such a beautiful snapper dish! He traveled to the seaside and cooked these just like I did!
He said, "I was inspired by your holiday cooking videos so I packed my Korean ingredients for my holiday by the sea."
Racquel B Robinson's homemade kimchi!
When I found this super tasty looking kimchi photo on FB, I was thinking, "how many people around the world really make such perfect looking kimchi like this?" Racquel B Robinson made this kimchi and gave me a lot of credit: "These are from your recipes!" Congratulations and thanks a lot! She made 2 kinds of kimchi: Napa cabbage kimchi and cubed radish kimchi.
Patryk Baryluk's bibimbap party!
Some of you can set a great Korean table with the dishes that you have learned one by one from me. Take a look at this bibimbap table!
Patryk made bibimbap as a main dish and prepared a few more banchan (Korean side dishes) such as spinach, braised black beans, kimchi, and a soybean sprouts side dish, plus he made doenjang-guk (fermented bean paste soup with tofu). Gorgeous!
Paxton's Buldak (Spicy Fire Chicken)
If you are a fan of spicy food, I'm sure you would feel like taking a piece of this spicy fire chicken! I would do that if it's possible. : )
Paxton twit, twit like this! "...It's one of the most delicious things you can ever eat!" Ooh, la la~
AdelineYap's fluffy roll ppang
Adeline in Malaysia made these perfect looking bread rolls. She said "So soft and fluffy and basically just melt in my mouth ppang texture."
Adeline, I'd like to give a just little bit of a pinch to your roll ppang because they are so cute! Besides, I love their beautifully coiled shape. I'm sure it's not the first time you made these, is it?
Sarayii's gamja hotdog
Sarayii made a beautiful looking Korean gamja hotdog - a hotdog cooked in batter with potato bits and covered in ketchup and mustard. She loved it and said he will make it again.
I left a comment on her photo: "I love the photo not only for the perfect looking gamja-hotdog but also for your hand! : ) The nail polish goes well with the green background!" What do you think, everybody? Agree?
Amazing messages from my viewers & readers!
isidira Lima made japchae and took it to her work place. Her coworkers tasted it and they didn't believe she made it.
They said this is from a Korean restaurant and I told them , "Nope I learned this from Maangchi, the lady on YouTube!"
Do you still think a recipe for 6 pounds of kimchi is too big? It sounds like Marc C makes more and more kimchi every time he makes a new batch!
This recipe is a real monster, it keeps getting bigger every time I make it !!!! Thank you very much for the education, it is delicious !!!!
I'm very happy to hear that small children love to watch my videos. So far a 6 month old baby is my youngest fan! Afruja Khatun's comment made me laugh!
My 5 years old daughter said "Maangchi is the best". I don't know what she understood. but she loves your shows. mainly your appearance..
Debbie's homemade japchae's number one fan was her own son! "Mom, I'll eat all of this!"
I hope you all are well and I will see you next month on September first! Oops, September comes soon? Enjoy your time and cook some delicious food!
